Avalon: Tayutama: Kiss on my Deity Review
This anime was about as good as I expected it too be…not very. Some supernatural anime just aren’t that great. I didn’t like the anime enough to take the time to take my own screenshots so the pics on this review are pics I found online and are most likely from the visual novel and not the anime lol.
Animation – 7/10
Nothing amazing here and nothing to mention other than it was average.
Art-style – 7.5/10
Characters all look fine and girls are mostly cute. Yumina is the cutest imo.
Sound – 6.5/10
I never really cared about any of the music, but I can’t say it was bad because I didn’t really give myself a chance to like any of it (opening and ending at least). Background music…I never really noticed it so…
Voice acting didn’t stand out (at least for me) which means it wasn’t so bad that I’d notice, but not amazing.
Story – 6/10
The story was boring. At first I thought it could become interesting, but it never really did. It follows a single formula: 1) find enemy, 2) defeat enemy, 3) personal problems, repeat. Nothing different really happened. I’m not saying it needs to have plot-twist after plot-twist, but something to spice it up a little (something we HAVEN’T SEEN BEFORE).
Yuuri works at a shrine with his father and one day Yuuri and his friends accidentally break a seal binding 3 evil tayutai (is that right?)/demons/whatever. The god responsible for them awakens and reveals that Yuuri is the descendant of the person who helped her (the god) defeat the 3 demons in the past and that she needs his help to defeat them again. She becomes a young girl and begins to live with Yuuri to train him to fight the tayutai…
Characters – 5.5/10
Pretty much all the main characters annoyed me while the side characters were actually not too bad. Yumina is my favorite, followed by both Nue and Mifuyu. Yuuri pretty much suffers from the dreaded “I am a dumbass” syndrome that many males from love triangle animes seem to possess. I won’t say the women were much better though ‘cuz they weren’t.
Mifuyu (blond) and Yumina (blue):
Nue:
Development-wise there wasn’t too much character development except maybe in the last couple eps with only a couple characters. This would have gotten an even lower score, but Yumina, Nue, and Mifuyu being surprisingly un-annoying and entertaining saved it a little bit. It’s kinda sad that I almost would have liked it better if all the main characters had died in the end or something. ^^
Enjoyment – 6/10
Disliked most of the characters, story was mostly boring, climax sorta sucked…what else? Only parts that were enjoyable involved Yumina for me. Other than that there was nothing I really liked about the story and am kinda thinking the score I gave sounds too high when reading what I’ve written here…Yumina plus other sides saved the day somewhat.
Overall – 5.75/10
A score of 5.5 seemed too cruel and a score of 6 seemed too generous so I’ll compromise with myself and go in the middle. This was an anime that I don’t know if I would have finished if I watched all the eps at the same time. Being released once a week and sometimes even waiting longer to watch it helped. I don’t particularly want to recommend it because there are so many better animes out there.

I haven’t seen it, and I won’t either. Anyway, right now I invest most of my free time in a new project: “Yes to Freedom”; “World Citizens for Freedom of Speech”. It began on Sankaku Complex (http://www.sankakucomplex.com/forums/topic.php?id=1184), and now is becoming somewhat bigger than what was originally expected.
Lol good luck with that. ^^
