Camarilla: 2009 Summer Overview

Alright, I found myself with so much to say on Azarius’s post that I decided I needed to make one myself, so here we go.

High Priority (From Highest to lowest in the High)

Spice and Wolf II
Spice and wolf
I had to put this as my highest priority, I absolutely loved the first series and from what I can tell of 00 and 01 it looks like II will be more of the same. There is something about the relationship between the characters that I find very appealing, I love the medieval economic discussions as well. The studio animating it got changed, though the voice staff was kept. The change really isn’t noticeable. I am looking forward to this show each week more than any other. Also, Horo teasing Lawrence is just plain cute.
Umineko No Naku Koro Ni
umineko-no-naku-koro-ni
This one, I will be comparing to Higurashi constantly, so it probably won’t be good for me to watch it as it airs, but I will anyway. I am wondering with the completely different story lines I can make a judgment on which I like best in the end. In any case, the first episode was not nearly as good as ep 1 of Higurashi for the obvious reason, but episode 2 was easily better in Umineko. It should be interesting to see this show continue.
Aoi Hana

Yeah yeah, I know putting a yuri anime on my high priority list is weird, but completely apart from the yuri overtones, this show is a very good romance. Probably better than I have seen in quite awhile. I feel in love with it from the first episode, very fun show to watch.
Taishou Yakyuu Musume
taishou_yakyuu_001
I know I am going to get hell for saying this, but I think this show is atleast 10x better than cross game, I enoyed watching cross game, but I never felt like I needed to support the characters. Here is completely opposite, after I feel in love with the series from the tokyo song in the beginning of the first episode, I knew I would have to watch it, but the rest of that first episode really sold it for me, making me want to see the rest of the series, entirely because I want the girls to suceed

Medium Priority, I will watch, but not too closely

NEEDLESS
This is the perfect action series. Also the ed is amazing.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
tokyo-magnitude
Awesome idea, but I’m not sure it will be implemented very well, stay tuned for this one, it has the potential to be very good or very bad.
Princess Lover!
princess_lover_anime_1
This one is so much better than I thought it would be. I will certainly watch it, but it can’t go with the high priority simply because it is a harem show.
Kanamemo
kanamemo
This is an amazingly fun show to watch, I will watch it if only to break up the violence and destruction.

Low Priority, may or may not watch

Bakemonogatari
Hmm… This one is a little creepy for my tastes (coming from someone who loved the violence of Higurashi season 1) but I may stick with it, it is an iffy one for now.
CANAAN
Neat girl assassin show (is my first impression, it may change), but it isn’t high on my list of things to watch, I may save it till all the episodes have aired.
Sora no ManiMani
sora-no-manimani
Not sure I want to fit this in, I enjoyed the first episode, but I am not sure I have enough time unfortunately, I will probably watch it anyway.

Will never watch, due to first episode being terrible

I’ll just list these: Umi Monogatari and Fight Ippatsu!!! (WTF),

Stuff from last season

Saki: I am still enjoying watching this one.
Shangri-La: Perhaps my favorite from last season, I want to know more about bear girl though.
FMA:B have to watch it, though it is supposed to be even longer than the first series.

***Special note, Zan Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei is airing, I loved the first series, but I have not see the second, so will not be watching Zan.

  1. Bakemonogatari creepy? Really? Why can I not see this creepiness that everyone else sees inside of animes??? People are saying Umineko is creepy. So…a lot of blood everywhere with a torn face. I call that entertainment dammit! I want to see this creepiness people are talking about as I am utterly bored.

The only thing that is really creepy is a gay guy coming on to me. That could creep me out…

After I watch the first episode of everything else, I may want to yell at you… but I doubt I will care once I get to watching them all…

I bet you are expecting me to yell at you about that baseball anime right? RIGHT?? Well too bad. It isn’t fun if you expect it =P

  2. Blood I couldn’t care less about. The whole food brain thing really creeped me out for some reason… Really love the ed of bakemonogatari, though.

  3. I agree with the Tokyo Magnitude though. The girl is kind of annoying, but so is everyone else. I think it will work out though.

  4. Wej, I think we just hope for too much when it comes to scary and creepy anime. I can say that the food brain in Bakemonogatari was definitely weird and I liked the effect.
I find the girl in Tokyo Magnitude only a little annoying…her parents also seem kinda annoying so I don’t blame her all that much since she has to live with them.

    • I understand why she was annoying on some parts. Her parents, and most other adults were even more annoying then her. But when 1 adult was nice to her, she was too annoyed to be thankful for it. That is what kindof annoyed me about her.

  5. CANAAN = “girl assassin show”
You haven’t watched much (if any) of it, right? I thought it would be so at first glance – something like Phantom, which I dropped – but the first episode changed my mind entirely.

    • I have watched the first episode. Too much of the episode was that gun fight in the festival. In a show like CANAAN, I don’t care much about the gunfights, what I want to know more about is the political stuff. I was hoping they would focus more on the different groups(especially cat head people) unfortunately for me they didn’t do much of that, I will continue watching, and will probably change my mind, but for now all I can think of CANAAN as is that gunfight.

I’ve never been too big on gunfights… So CANAAN just isn’t the series for me.

      • I honestly don’t really like political stuff so it seems right up my alley.
