Loli Artist Review: Naoshi Onizuka

Back to my greatest favourites! Naoshi Onizuka is a prolific LO artist since the very beginning of the anthology magazine. His art is fairly known to lolicons, being widely spread through the net. Random Translator’s work on the tankoubon “Love is Peachy?” likely contributed quite a lot to this artist’s fame.

Artwork: 8.5/10

His distinctive, clean art differs from most mainstream anime-style drawings as his characters’ eyes are smaller than how such traits usually appear in manga, and his drawings are overall slightly more on the realistic style, while keeping appropriate – and rather unrealistic – cuteness. He also draws a very respectable variety of (female) characters; each one being significantly distinct from others. On the other hand, not much attention is given to details and backgrounds, although that may not have fit his art style anyway…

Story: 10/10

Undoubtedly the best point in Naoshi Onizuka’s works. His stories are not only more developed than the norm, they also manage to be either sad without being rapey, funny, realistic, cute, or – often – all of the above.

Fappability: 9/10

If his art isn’t the most arousing ever in my opinion, quite a few one-shots are night masterpieces (Talk Show on Mute in “Life is Peachy” being my personal favourite – even more so as the title comes from a song by Incubus). The themes in his works include most of what you could hope for, thus, his tankoubons are definitely worth a read; they likely contain something that will cater to your likes.

Among the best and most well-know artists from Comic LO, Naoshi Onizuka provides plenty of high-quality art and entertaining stories. Definitely an artist worth trying, especially as many of his works are either translated or being translated at the moment. (http://pant.su/index.php/category/artists/naoshi-onizuka/)
