Avalon: Fall 2009 Anime Overview
Here is my post for the fall season. This season doesn’t seem to have as many good anime that really jumps out at me so my “High Priority” anime are not necessarily anime that I MUST watch, but more along the lines of being more interesting than the others. Also, I have no desire to watch CR subs which means I am not watching HorribleSubs. This means that I have not yet watch Armed Librarians because HorribleSubs seems to be the only group keeping up with the eps. That is another anime that I am somewhat looking forward to even though I haven’t watched it yet.
High Priority
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
I may not absolutely adore Index, but what that anime did accomplish was making me adore Misaka Mikoto/Shocker/Railgun. I’ve been looking forward to this and so far it really hasn’t been too bad…then again the first few eps of Index were really good as well…hopefully this anime won’t follow its predecessor.
There are plenty of yuri-ish moments because Kuroko Shirai so wants to make sweet love to Misaka who wants no part in Kuroko’s freakish fantasies.
Kimi ni Todoke
This is one of those anime’s that wouldn’t normally make it this high on my list, but for me it is easily the most interesting romance anime of the season (so far). Kuronuma Sawako looks much like Sadako from The Ring (Ringu…or whatever). She is actually a really nice girl who only wants to have friends. Everyone in her school is terrified of her so her wish is pretty much impossible. That is until Kazehaya-kun (pretty much loved by everyone) becomes friends with her.
I’m actually interested in the romance between these 2 characters and hopefully the anime doesn’t disappoint.
Letter Bee
Wikipedia:
“The story takes place in the land of AmberGround, a place of perpetual night only partially illuminated by an artificial sun. Lag Seeing works as a “Letter Bee” (delivery boy) at the “Bee Hive” (a delivery service), with his Dingo, Niche, and her “pet”, Steak, traveling with him. He is entrusted with the “hearts” of everyone in AmberGround to deliver their packages.”
The first 2 eps tell the story of when Lag was 7 years old and how he met and traveled with a letter bee. That experience caused him to want to become a letter bee. Letter Bee’s have to watch out for these giant metallic insects (forgot their name) that often attack them while traveling. Letter Bee’s have special guns which allow them to use energy from their heart to destroy them as regular weapons are ineffective.
This one has an interesting story which will hopefully continue to be interesting. Lag is a crybaby, but I can overlook that.
Medium-High Priority
Nyan Koi
Kousaka Junpei is terribly allergic to cats while the girl he has a huge crush on loves them. Not only does he have to deal with that, but he has to listen to cats everywhere he goes. You see, Junpei kicked a can one day and accidentally hit a small shrine for some cat deity…or something. He gets cursed and can now talk to cats. The only way to break the curse is to help out 100 cats (I think).
Silly story, but I like the characters (except the cats who are mostly annoying). Not the most original idea since it has been used in other anime with very similar circumstances minus the cats, but I don’t mind that.
Seitokai no Ichizon
Another anime that I’m kinda surprised I like. Seems like it would be one of those random anime and while it is somewhat, it really doesn’t overdo it. This anime is basically about the student counsel and their everyday activities. There is only 1 guy in the group with 4 girls…he loves H-games and calls the girls his harem of which they disagree completely.
This anime likes making fun of other anime with many little references to multiple anime.
Do I really need to explain what anime this would be from?
Medium Priority
11eyes
This anime reminds me of Shakugan no Shana where the main guy (guy and girl in this anime) are minding their own business when the sky turns red and they find themselves being attacked by strange creatures. Of course the main duo have some kind of past that is not yet fully known to us so I assume that is going to come into play quite a bit.
Kobato
Obviously a Clamp anime from the art-style which works for me since I like Clamp. Kobato is a clumsy girl who came from some alternate world to heal peoples’ hearts while collecting the broken hearts in a bottle. Apparently if she collects 100 broken hearts or something like that, her wish will be granted. Oh and she has a talking stuffed animal who is apparently there to watch and grade her work.
Sora no Otoshimono
This is NOT the main guy…
Main guy wants a quiet and peaceful life when one day a girl (angel?) falls from the sky and calls him master. She can grant him ANY wish. He is very perverted and seems to have an obsession with panties.
Fairy Tail

Art-style seems very similar to One Piece. This anime takes place in a world full of magic and the main girl wants to join a guild known as “Fairy Tail.” She meets the main guy (who is travelling with a talking cat…uhhh) and later finds out he is a mage.
Crappy description I know.
Medium-Low Priority
The Sacred Blacksmith
AniDB:
“The story takes place after an abominable war that foisted a “devil’s contract” upon a land. Cecily Campbell, a former noble’s daughter who joined a knighthood, encounters a man who dispatches some hoodlums with one sweep of a mysterious sword. The man possesses the power of the same “devil’s contract” that has become taboo, now that peace has been restored. Cecily has been searching for a blacksmith who can repair an old sword she inherited from her father, and that mysterious young man happens to be blacksmith named Luke. This encounter launches their adventures together.”
This seems like yet another one of those anime that I’m not hugely fond of like Utawarerumono, Tears to Tiara, Guin Saga, etc. Of course that isn’t going to stop me from giving this a shot. I was a little more interested when the first big demon appeared and Luke showed off his unusual method of crafting a blade.
Aoi Bungaku
I doubt this anime will stay this low on my list because it is very dark…lol yea. It is apparently made up of 6 separate stories so I guess 1 overall story is not a possibility.
AniDB:
“The series will consist of adaptations of six modern classics of Japanese literature: Osamu Dazai’s No Longer Human (Ningen Shikkaku) & Run, Melos! (Hashire, Melos!), Natsume Soseki’s Kokoro, Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s Hell Screen (Jigoku Hen) & The Spider’s Thread (Kumo no Ito), and Ango Sakaguchi’s In the Forest, Under Cherries in Full Bloom (Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita).”
Go to AniDB for the full description which tells of each story.
Low Priority
Kampfer
Main guy wakes up as a girl one day and finds out he is a Kampfer (still don’t know what they are). Apparently Kampfers have to be girls which is why he turned into a girl and for some reason the Kampfers fight each other with different abilities.
This anime is not all that great. I don’t really like the art and the story does not seem that great.
Trapeze
This anime easily wins the award for the strangest art of the season. It is about a psychiatrist I guess and his patients…according to aniDB…
Only reason why it is so low on my list is because I still don’t know exactly where to put it. To be fair, I think I was half asleep during the 2nd half of the 1st episode because I don’t remember too much of it. I’ll have to re-watch it along with the next episode to really decide what I think about this anime.
More pics showing off the weird style:

Dropped / Unknown
Sasameki Koto
Another yuri anime which I am just not in the mood to watch.
Shin Koihime Musou
Yet another anime that makes me think of the animes like The Sacred Blacksmith mentioned above, but worse. Yea the loli is cute, but I’m not really looking for cute in these types of anime.
I have cuter screenshots of the loli, but I’m too lazy to put them on here.

I’d have to agree with on everything, but Kobato and Aoi Bungaku I’m one for the odd and random crap that pops out of no where and I really am just a huge fan of clamp and their storys especially Clover
I also love Clamp so I still have expectations for Kobato. I really enjoyed episode 2 of Aoi Bungaku as well so I will probably start looking forward to it more.
I just realized how awesome Nyan Koi sounds… Also, what is your favorite op/ed of this season? And do they even compare to Again?
Also, I ended up hearing the FMA:B opening before even seeing it in the anime: http://gendou.com/amusic/?filter=Sukima+Switch Guess why?
And, as I thought, the opening to Letter Bee is done by the same group who did the XXXholic stuffs.
Also, the ending to Needless sucks now =(
I am loving Letter Bee. It is such a strange story, but the characters make up for it. I also like how they have previews at the beginning of the ending theme song. First anime I have seen that does that.
Nyan Koi is probably the funniest of the season so far imo.
Favorite op/ed of the season…would probably be the opening of Railgun, but no it does not compare to Again.
I didn’t even notice that it is quite obvious Letter Bee’s opening is the same people as XXXholic…huh. Gotta love the underwear incident in Letter Bee.
“Gotta love the underwear incident in Letter Bee.”
Made me love it even more!
Some people at one of the seminar houses were talking about watching it awhile back. I was going to join them, but I rather not watch it without subs until I can understand it. I could imagine their reactions as I am going crazy about the lolis =D
The girl is so easy, that all he had to say was “your cute” and *BAM* she got into his underwear. =P
EDIT:
I do love the opening to railgun… too bad I hate the way they handled Index to the point where I won’t watch it unless it decides to center on the teleport girl. It would be so bad, I would have to watch it. Or if it somehow terns out to be amazing, which I doubt beyond doubting…
HOLY CRAP! Who do these guys look like? I don’t know if this is a reference, or if the animators couldn’t think of new characters…

I noticed it right away… wow… just wow…
By the way… 4th episode of Nyan Koi was amazing! Holy crap. I hate these types of anime, but this is by far, the best out of all I have seen…
Damit…. Sora no Otoshimono would be brilliant if it wasn’t for the excessively over sized breasts… I mean really…. god damit
When it came to that part in Nyan Koi, I immediately took a screen shot as well. I mean its so obvious you’d be stupid to miss it lol. I agree, episode 4 was definitely something special!
As for Sora no Otoshimono, I thought the exact same thing at the start, but watching the most recent ep, I swear her breasts shrunk a little which is great because she looked pretty damn cute in some of those shots.
